John Virtue is an important British painter, born in 1947 he studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, he was invited and appointed the sixth associate artist in the residence at the National Gallery of London, where he was given a studio in which to produce new artwork that would connect to the National Gallery Collection. The body of artwork had to demonstrate the continuation of the potential of the Old Master tradition of landscape painting (by Rubens, Rusdael, Turner and Constable) as an inspiration into today’s artist.

He has work in many public galleries including the Tate & the National Gallery.
