Born in 1908, Irene Klestova, nee Tchistovski, was of Polish/Russian origin.  She left Russia with her brother Lew Tchistovski, during the Bolshevik revolution.  Very little is known of their life before or after their departure from Russia, but, they both had established a fine reputation for beautiful still life painting and between them had received some of the highest awards in Leningrad.

It is known that Irene Klestova was married and lived for over twenty years in Italy before moving to Paris in the 1950’s to live with her brother, where they exhibited regularly at the Salon d’Hiver and the Salon des Artistes Independents.

The unique quality of her work fully supports the wide reputation and many honours she received during her lifetime. Her distinctive style and depth of colour in portraits, and still life – especially charming compositions of roses, has many admirers and will be a suitable legacy to her memory.
