Adam Ralston “I consider myself a plein air painter because I love to paint my surroundings as much as possible. For example my hometown Blackpool is a prominent subject throughout my artworks. I love to paint the beach, promenade, pier and even the illuminations. I just want to capture what lies before me to capture the atmosphere and relationship between light and shadow on summer days… But I have to work quick!”
Adam achieved an Art Foundation Diploma from Blackpool College of Art in 1990 and went on to achieve an Honours Degree in Fine Art at Canterbury College of Art, 1993. During these years, Adam’s initial influence was taken from the work of Euan Uglow.
PLEIN AIR PAINTER
Though, as Adam’s oeuvre develops he claims his most recent influence is the Peter Brown. Adam Ralston paints on location through the medium of oil paint. Each painting is an exploration of the value of tone and colour, whilst remaining conscious of the formal qualities and composition. Adam prefers to complete a painting ‘alla prima’ (in one go) if possible. However, has proven quite the challenge and Adam admits often multiple painting sessions are needed until he is fully satisfied with a piece.

Central Lancashire Art Fair 2014, 2015 and 2016. The New English Art Club Annual Open Exhibition 2016 in London and Adam was awarded third place in the Pintar 2016. Chelsea, London.
